NYT Connections — August 8, 2026

Today's board runs from old-fashioned shouts of joy, to ways of putting something into words, to words that sound like their own letter abbreviations, and ends with things that can follow "safety."

Yellow (easiest): these are old-timey exclamations you might shout at a surprise party or a carnival — nobody really says them with a straight face anymore.

Green: every word here means to phrase or express something, whether spoken, written, or conveyed some other way.

Blue: say each word out loud and listen for a short abbreviation hiding inside — one sounds like a letter-grade, one like a measurement of ease, one like special-effects, and one like a debt note.

Purple (hardest): each word can follow "safety" — think what buckles you into a car seat, what shields your eyes, what closes a diaper, and what you shave carefully with.
